American Journal of Nursing

http://www.ajn.org

This is one fo the best sites in nursing. Originally, it was only an electronic version of the well known nursing journal, with full-text articles, since January 1995. Afterwards, it began to include texts from The American Journal of Maternal/Child Nursing. Nowadays it is managed by Lipincott, a publishing house and has many additional resources in research information, learning and nursing assistance, like the Annual Career Guide, associations information, certification, jobs openings, etc. Nurses can also answer continuous education on-line tests.

LUMEN (Loyola University Medical Education Network)

http://www.meddean.luc.edu/lumen/

Loyola University, from New Orleans, USA, has developed a formidable support resource for medical education using the Internet. In the anatomy section there is a sectional anatomy course, the alergy section has an excellent introduction to anaphilaxy, the pneumology section has videos showing toraccical expansion in breath. Available resources include video, sound and graphics. Areas most represented are histology, neurology, general medicine and anatomy, but other areas are being fastly added.

OncoLink

http://www.oncolink.upenn.edu

When Dr .Loren Buhle, from Pennsylvania, USA, had a young cancer patient, he had difficulties founding related information. Answering to this problem, he developed OncoLink one of the best information resources about cancer in the Internet (the other one is US National Cancer Institute). Information available in OncoLink is destined both for the professional and the general public. It also includes a newsletter on cancer, links to scientific journals, and a search engine, besides thousands of links to other Internet sites. An extensive index allows access by disease or by speciality and are links to Physician Data Query (PDQ) and CancerLit, two resources mantained by NCI about scientific literature in oncology. Pediatrics oncology and a psicosocial support section to patients are two substantial points in this unmissable site.

Fundação Oswaldo Cruz

http://www.fiocruz.br

One of the most visited sites in the health area, in Brazil, it is rich in information about the famous Instituto de Manguinhos, in Rio de Janeiro, a place where many research, developing, learning and heath assistance activities take place (it is a  Ministry of Health organ). Among other interesting things, the site has SINITOX (National System of Toxic-Pharmacological Information) and many publications, including InfoSaúde and the traditional Memórias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, both available in full-text. There is also information about the Health Channel on TV(Canal Saúde), library, video library, FioCruz Network and courses.
